Why is it that my widescreen movies have the top and bottom bars when I have a widescreen TV?
I have a Samsung LNT4671f.. its full HD 1080p 46in screen. I also have a PS3 which plays bluray movies. Some movies play using the whole screen and some have the bars on top and bottom… its just random depending on the movie… why is it like this?
Also, I’m talking just about bluray movies here.
It is a direct result of how the movie was shot. The term is aspect ratio and it varies from movie to movie.

Is Top Gun a guy flick or not?
My mom likes the movie Top Gun, and I think it’s kind of a guy flick. Am I wrong, or do women like it just as much as men? Thanks!
It has elements that makes it both a guy movie and a chick flick.
It has planes. It has stuff blowing up. It has flying. It has rivalry. Oh, and did I mention stuff blowing up? A lot of action… and lots of machismo.

Is it a sad commentary on today’s society that a film maker would not be allowed to make “Blazing Saddles” now?
“Blazing Saddles” is among the top 10 comedy movies of all time. I’ve watched it with black friends and white friends alike and they have all loved it. But, in today’s society the movie could not be made. Why not?
Political correctness: the same thing that destroyed All in the Family & M*A*S*H. 2 very funny show that pushed the envelope then went down the crapper once the PC police got a hold of them.
Letterbox viewing on widescreen tv!?
Anyone else feel really annoyed when you own a (usually) expensive widescreen TV and you buy a film and still have to watch it with 2 inches cut off the bottom and top! I know this is because film maker dont make films in 16:9 but its still annoying! I have a ps3 and downloaded the Casino Royale trailer. It fills my 32inch HDTV fantastically and looks absolutely amazing but when i got the full blue ray movie its in blooming letterbox! I can zoom my picture but that ofc cuts off the sides! Anyone else find this a little irritating when youve spent loads on a widescreen tv?
